PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Charity Almshouses

The scheme provides 15 one-bedroom bungalows and apartments, specifically designed for the increasing over-55 demographic, and the Charity’s office. The client, Girton Town Charity seeks to provide support for those over 55 year olds, who live or have family connections within the Girton Parish boundary to live independently for as long as they can.

The approved scheme consists of three buildings gathered around a central courtyard. The 15 homes, arranged as 5 bungalows and 10 apartments. All but two of the homes are accessible to M4(2) standards, and internally all meet M4 (3) accessibility and exceed Local Authority internal space standards.

The homes are to be accredited Passivhaus’ as part of the Charity’s drive to reduce the cost of living for their residents. Each home has a small terrace area for residents to make their own, as well as access to landscaped communal gardens, orchard, and vegetable garden.
